There are several differences between drive chains and roller chains, but in essence, the two are functionally similar. The choice of which type to use depends largely on the type of environment it will be exposed to. While roller chains are suitable for clean indoor environments, they are not very forgiving when it comes to rubbing against the rails. After removing the chain from the sprocket, apply the measured load specified by ANSI to it. If the load exceeds this value, the chain may bend. A suitable load for measuring a drive chain should be at least six links.
