You should be able to differentiate between roller chains, forged rivetless chains, double chains, flat-top chains, and helical chains by the terms used. There are several differences between drive chains and roller chains, but in essence, the 2 are functionally similar. The choice of which type to use depends largely on the type of environment it will be exposed to. While roller chains are suitable for clean indoor environments, they are not very forgiving when it comes to rubbing against the rails.
